Mineral oil is a clear, odorless liquid derived from petroleum that has many health benefits. It can be used topically or taken internally, depending on the type of mineral oil:
Topical
Mineral oil can be used to treat or prevent dry, rough, scaly, or itchy skin, as well as minor skin irritations like diaper rash and radiation burns. It can also help heal minor wounds, prevent chafing, and rehydrate nails. To use mineral oil topically, apply it to the affected areas of skin as needed, following all directions on the product package. Avoid sensitive areas like the eyes, inside your mouth or nose, and the vaginal or groin area.
Internal
Refined, food-grade mineral oil can be taken internally to help relieve constipation. It can also be used as an enema for constipation.
Mineral oil can also be used to treat dandruff, cradle cap, cracked feet, and mild eczema.
